What is BodhiTree?

BodhiTree is an innovative online learning platform developed at IIT Bombay with the mission of providing accessible, quality technical education for all through personalized, flexible, and hands-on learning experiences. The platform mimics classroom teaching through interactive multimedia books and lab manuals.

It is available through web browsers and through smartphone apps.

Learning philosophy

BodhiTree supports two primary learning approaches:

  1. Personalized self-learning: students progress at their own pace.

  2. Instructor-guided flipped classrooms: independent study blended with guided instruction.

Both are served by the same course: the instructor decides how much structure to impose through publishing, deadlines and grading.

How BodhiTree differs from other platforms

Unlike MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses), which aim to replace teachers, BodhiTree focuses on supporting instructors as well as students. The platform acts as a teaching aid rather than a replacement for educators.

Compared with traditional LMS platforms such as Moodle, BodhiTree offers:
